A Friend Like You

Inspired by The Winnie-the-Pooh Stories by A.A. Milne and illustrations by E.H. Shepherd, “A Friend Like You” is a ballet for all ages choreographed by Sylvana Christopher.

Christopher’s thesis work marked the completion of her time in the ICONS Choreographic Institute. My esteemed cohort included Valerie Dunham, Teresa Dominick, Millie Parker and Mimi Noorani. In August of 2020 the cohort embarked on a 9 month program designed by Bulgarian American Choreographer Vladimir Angelov. This well-structured program overviewed the history and evolution of choreography and encouraged cohort members to analyze other professional choreographer’s work. The course of study was interrupted and suspended as the pandemic hit the U.S. in March 2020. In July 2021, post-vaccination, the cohort resumed and three of us graduated and two would carry over into the next cohort. The thesis works were presented at Dance Loft on 14 Theater on September 11th & 12th, 2021.
